BIG 6: New Yorker Lions first team in Eurobowl XXIX

With the New Yorker Lions, the first team has a place in the Eurobowl XXIX, the final of the BIG 6. On Saturday, the team of Braunschweig won in Salzgitter in front of 1,500 spectators in Group B against Flash de la Courneuve from France at the end clearly with 37:14 (7:0/7:14/14:0/9:0).

The guests from near Paris showed especially in the first half brave resistance, but also failed by their own mistakes on offense. For example in the first quarter, when Lions defensive back Durrell Givens intercepted a pass from La Courneuve´s quarterback Paul Durand and run about 56 yards in the opponent's end zone for the lead of the Lions.

The French did not give up and dominated the second quarter, in which they equal twice and could go in the half time with a respectable 14:14.

By the team of Braunschweig, it was obviously that the missing of quarterback Grant Enders was a handicap. His back up Evan Landi had a solid game but threw a pass to wide receiver Christian Bollmann too short and was intercepted. That gave the Flash the opportunity to score the last touchdown in the first half by runningback Michael Andrew.

At the beginning of the third quarter both teams missed the lead by good chances. First the hosts lost the ball on the opponent's four-yard-line, then Durant threw another interception deep in half of the Lions.

Braunschweig should then score any points in the last two quarters. Runningback Michael Andrew, who scored a touchdown in the second quarter, too, run from a short distance into the end zone twice, then Kicker Tobias Goebel scored with a field goal. The last touchdown was the result of a 83-yard interception-return from Sorie Bayoh, all in all the fifth intercepted pass of the Lions defense.

The German champion from Braunschweig is therefore in Eurobowl XXIX, which will take place at the weekend of the 20th/21st of June. Flash de la Courneuve said goodbye to the BIG 6 with two losses. The SWARCO RAIDERS Tirol, who lost their home game against the Lions got the second place in group B.
