Crocodiles head to Germany

The Finnish Champions, Seinäjoki Crocodiles, had to the Euro Bowl Semifinal in Braunschweig after defeating Tyresö Royal Crowns for the second time within a week in front of 800 visitors. The scoreline read
20-0 (6-0) and the aggregate after two legs was rather decisive 50-7 for the Finns.

Even though the Swedes let everyone know that they were the better team in their humble opinion the task of 23 points was way too much for them. Most of the people at Seinäjoki Keskuskenttä were quite surprised to see Tyresö to run the ball with Maxim Mlinkovich than pass it to their receivers. Mlinkovich didn’t do all that bad gathering 83 yards, but his supporting cast was nowhere near the level they should have been.

Tyresö started the game well and Crocodiles’ first drive got nowhere. Tyresö, on the other hand, got all the way to Crocodiles’ five yeard line with 2nd and 2, but Crocodiles’ defence, led by Earl Holmes, stopped thei lackluster efforts.

After that Crocodiles took the charge in the game. Quarterback Adam Lane found Jason Tibbits for a 30 TD –pass in the first quarter to give Crocodiles 6-0 lead and 29 point cushion over the visitors.

After playing with I-set most of the time in Sweden the Finns had changed their gameplan totally. This time it was run and shoot with four wideouts and just one back. This seemed to be confusing the physically strong opponents and after the first half Finns were leading 6-0.

In the 3rd quarter the game was decided by two TDs. First it was RB Mikko Rissanen with a 1-yard-run Jukka Satola converting the extrapoint and the Lane found Tibbits again for another passing-TD, this time for 11 yeard with 4th down and 9 to go.

Tyresö was, no doubt about that, a physical and athletic side, but some of the coaching decisions caused this game as well as the first game to them. Crocodiles outcoached their opponents in both games with Jason Tibbits being the MVP again.

Both WR/DB Jason Tibbets and WR Marko Rissanen caught five passes. Tibbts got 64 yards and Rissanen 95. Tyresö’s WR’s were never a factor in the game and that was a huge surprise as Crocodiles feared this weapon most. Johan Perlström, who was supposed to be the main target for QB Brian Rasmussen caught just one pass for 17 yards. Their best WR James Barzier with two catches and 40 yards.
